@deyarts, I …
@deyarts, I completely agree with u, this guy is bleh.
I like the old …
I like the old guy’s voice better
=\
it doesn’t have …
it doesn’t have micro management, macro management (ie. building placement for multiple “cities” or controlling multiple control groups from different parts of the map), build order, etc.
Yeah, TW is a …
Yeah, TW is a simulation of real warfare, which is the part that I don’t really like. I prefer being able to direct individual units precisely. I prefer to be able to order all of my units to their death, and they’d obey unquestioningly. I prefer a more confrontational strategy rather than a more positional strategy. You’re totally right though, RTS conventions don’t work in real life situations, which is what TW is. I just don’t like that, it cuts too many strategies.
Yeah, I get that. …
Yeah, I get that. Personally, I don’t see it that way. I don’t see it as a combination of 2 strategy types loosely to make a great experience. I just see 2 loose strategy types. Glass is half empty for me. But honestly, if someone else made this style, Civ + CnC, but with Civ level of macro, and CnC level of micro, that’d be one badass game. It wouldn’t be nearly as realistic as TW games, but to me, sometimes realism isn’t better than arcade style.
Age of Empires 2, …
Age of Empires 2, Starcraft, Red Alert 1/2, Supreme Commander, etc. Almost all other RTS have that.
nah, to me, micro …
nah, to me, micro management is like able to control every single unit. I understand that this is a simulation of real warfare, which is cool. It’s just not my cup of tea. I like my units to obey my orders to the death.
Not really. In …
Not really. In terms of campaign map, it’s not as well developed or has as much depth as Civilization games, and in terms of battles it doesn’t have as much depth as Starcraft. I know that this sort of RTS elements are not realistic, but for me, I’d rather have an RTS than a realistic battle.
there is micro …
there is micro managing in the games, especially playing online and having a lot of soldiers in a battle and having to control them when they are far apart
That is the entire …
That is the entire point of the campaign map. It has all of that.
Those features …
Those features wouldn’t make sense in terms of the scope of the game. During the battle sequences, you are supposed to be the general, who can only see the battlefield and order troops. It’s much more realistic that way, because many of the staples of the RTS genre just wouldn’t make sense in real life.
@rbrtchng
neither …
@rbrtchng
neither the campaign map nor the real time battles of the TW series are better than other games on their own.
Civilisation or the the Europa Universals series are far better in terms of turn based strategy and the real time battles in the newer TW games (medieval 2 and empire) suffer a lot from bad AI.
What’s great about the TW series is the mix of both.
I think Rome:TW and Barbarian Invasion are by far the best games in the series.
What game does?
What game does?
not beyond the idea …
not beyond the idea of flanking, high ground, and rock/paper/scissor. I’m talking strategy like tech tree, build order, micro management, macro management, economy, etc. When you’re in battle, TW doesn’t have any of that.
No strategy? So …
No strategy? So there’s no strategy involved when an army of 60 Peasants and 60 Sherwood Archers beat a Mongol force of appr 400?
I dont like Total …
I dont like Total War games. There are almost no strategy to the battles. It’s almost entirely just high ground and flanking and rock/paper/scissor. Not my cup of tea. But it’s pretty cool how it was meant to be a CnC clone.
