Can you truly say you won?
You did not achieve ANY objective (destruction of Finnish army, occupation of Finland, supplanting the lawful finnish government with a soviet puppet regime). In either war. You only forced us to sue for peace. We came out bruised, but alive. You came out bruised and bleeding.
Pyrrhic victory is no victory if you cannot even achieve your original objectives.

Quite good new book …
Quite good new book of this is GF Sanders Battle of Finland 1939-1940. It also says that last decent war was our winter war, I agree. Later war was also not reason of us but SU, and if we’ve had enough firepower, at least things had change bit, not everything. In my opinion I know quite many russians, part of them are my best friends. I dont have any bad feelings cause we didnt make history, others made.

The question isn’t about can, its about want. Russia can for sure if they want. Like they are giving areas back to China. Finland had to signed documents because they had to. They would have wanted to keep Karelia and other finnish areas. Russia has been signed a agreement of the final act of the conference on security and cooperation in Europe. It says that borders can be changed In Europe peacefully. The agreement is because there is some border issues in Europe as we know.

Yes, you are right. Your own soldiers couldn’t understand Stalin’s actions. Many times they asked that why we need this war. Finnish people don’t need it and russians don’t need it either (about the Winter War). Now Russia would make a right thing if they would start conversation with Finland about those lost finnish areas. I can’t really understand why russian’s are so stubborn that they don’t even want to talk about it. Those areas are not important for Russia, you don’t need to be a bully.

Even when finnish troops lost the main defence line, they were fighting hard. Like USSR didn’t get the Vyborg during the Winter War by guns. If Stalin would have continued the attack to Finland, he would have signed USSR’s fate with Germany. Allied would have declared war against USSR. Like USSR lost its membership on the League of Nations. Stalin knew that very well so he made a peace but didn’t believe it will be the last. Stalin had his own plan for Finland as Molotov’s actions reveal.

USSR started the Winter War with 21 divisions and ended it with 58 divisions. Finnish army had only 8 divisions at the start of the war. Finnish divisions were 4th, 5th, 6th (later it was 3th), 8th, 10th (later 7th), 11th, 12th, 13th. It was miracle that your troops couldn’t really broken through our defence earlier. Like Mannerheim said himself that mannerheim line will hold a week to 10 days. Finnish troops haven’t enough of ammo for example so they couldn’t have last too long.
